Heavy Blooms
Our Heavy Bloom line has been one of the most exciting projects we've worked on over the past several years. Through careful selection, we've retained only the very best birds—hens that don't just occasionally lay a heavily bloomed egg, but consistently produce heavy blooms approximately 99% of the time.
For this first public offering, we've chosen to backcross our Heavy Bloom hens to our Black Copper Marans (BCM) rooster. Our goal was simple: while our Heavy Bloom hens maintained exceptional bloom throughout the laying season, we noticed the underlying shell color tended to lose some of its richness later in the year. By introducing our BCM bloodline, we're working to deepen the base shell color while preserving the heavy bloom, resulting in eggs that maintain both their striking bloom and darker overall appearance throughout the laying season.
Because bloom inheritance is complex, heavy bloomed eggs are not guaranteed in every generation. However, with thoughtful selection, this trait can be strengthened and amplified within your own breeding program over time.
Please note that this is a project pen, and we do not offer Heavy Bloom eggs by a specific bloom color. Instead, we collect and ship the very best eggs produced within a three-day collection window. Bloom colors can vary widely and are part of what makes this project so exciting. You may receive eggs with silver, dusty olive, pink, peach, mauve, rose, or even purple blooms. Every shipment is unique, and each egg represents the best expression of the Heavy Bloom project at the time of collection.
All chicks are sold as straight run.
